My work explores sites that trigger an emotional state of triviality of life. Living in a city and being part of something greater than oneself connects me to the continuing historical string of humanity, but makes my individual life seem insignificant. The structures we build appear more permanent than our short and fleeting moments within.

The three series LA Leisures, Neighborhood Sky and California Elegance have been ongoing photography and video projects for the past 6 years. The images are taken in and around Los Angeles of places with a certain promise. Whether it is a theme park or a new suburb with single family dwellings, there is peculiar air of excitement that radiates from these sites. It implies a certain attraction to the place, a temporary paradise with a false feel of permanence. I photograph under the light conditions of a white sky or slightly foggy conditions, which occur here in Los Angeles often in Spring and Fall. The white sky provides a blank canvas, and isolates the subject from time and distance. I examine the relationship between short moments (Augenblicke) and the surrounding that surpasses those moments. The shutter itself then becomes the blink of an eye.

These photographs are taken with a 2 ¼-format camera. For the material I use negative film, which allows me to print the images myself in the traditional process of printing straight from the negative onto photo paper.
