Ever since I moved to Los Angeles, I have been obsessively mapping out different pockets of the city with the attempt to understand this seemingly chaotic culture in which I participate. I consider my photographs as a visual, personal construct of my surrounding. On the other hand, I also regard my work to be an anthropological study or survey I conduct from an alien position, watching humans play with their newly acquired land. Clashes between dream and reality manifest themselves with ironic juxtapositions of dreadful structures and elements of beautification, often in an attempt to disguise the human assault on the “virgin” Western landscape.
In this process of wandering through my city, I discover its fabric and the magnet that draws so many different people here. It is its young history and loose soil that gives Los Angeles a peculiar air of excitement. |
